Fun at the park...

We went to the park this evening to play while Pete went running. There were several people there. We usually see a boy that is 16 years old there and has Down syndrome (I'll call him D). He knows us and is very talkative. The park is somewhat in a neighborhood and he lives in that neighborhood. He walks down there (by himself!) to play all the time. I also chat with his mom when she is there.

OK, so Sam is running around playing with some girls that are at the park, Joe and Max are swinging and I am holding Ike while pushing Joe and then Max. I push Joe and then go over and push Max. As I am pushing Max, a man that is pushing his child tells me Joe is throwing up- in his own words. I look at Joe and sure enough he is covered in puke and still puking and still puking.... I put Ike in the grass so I can get Joe out of the swing. As soon as I do that, D is yelling "underwear!" I turn to see what he is talking about. I guess Max 'had to go' and decided the grass next to the swings is as good as any place. He had his shoes, socks and pants off. His undies were pulled down and he was peeing in the grass! OH my gosh! I pull Max's undies back up and tell him to get his pants on. I pull Joe out of the puke covered swing and start stripping him down as all his clothes are covered with chunks. Max is now climbing up the climbing wall in his underwear! I go grab him and get his pants on. D is still yelling "underwear!" His mom is there and tells him to stop. She picked up poor Ike out of the grass and is holding him for me. Soon after all this happened, everyone left but D and his mom. I'm not sure if it was because of us or not!

We still had to wait for Pete to get back from running before we could leave! Poor Joe is sitting in the grass wrapped up in a blanket. He fall asleep on the way home and is (hopefully) down for the night- (it's 11ish, so who knows!). He has been fine all day. I hope he isn't really sick and starting all the sickies over for us.

Spring Break!

Max is on Spring break this week. It has been somewhat cool though. Today was a little warmer so we went to the nature park most the afternoon. We got to see several snakes that were just starting to come out of hibernation. The kids all had fun and got lots of exercise. They have a small amphitheater there that the kids put on "shows" for me to watch. Ike really thought the hand fulls of gravel he kept picking up were food and tried about 50 times to eat them.

Ike and I are off are meds and the others are done tomorrow I think (gotta check my calendar). However Joe throw up this evening for who knows why! I didn't even hear him do it. I just walk down to give something to Max and looked over at Joe who had 2 piles of nasty puke beside him. He also had it all over his face, hands and clothes. I got him cleaned up and held him for a few minutes. He went to sleep pretty fast. He felt like he had a fever so I will check him before I go to bed.

Ike has not wanted to go to bed or at least stay in bed the last 3 nights- but after 11 he seems fine. So I go back and forth to his room, rock him, lay him down, etc all evening.

Last spring break Sam broke her arm. Tomorrow will be 1 year since it happened. Her and Max were jumping on my mom's bed (we were down visiting grandma during spring break) while my mom watched them. I was getting Joe ready for bed. I hear a thump and Sam starts crying. She is yelling my name. I don't rush right in because she hollers my name all day long and cries just about every time Max touches her (at least it feel that way!). After a minute my mom calls me in. Sam's arm is not straight and is obviously broken! So I am thinking who should I take with me to the ER. Joe is not sleeping but crying his eyes out because I put him to bed (a 'new' bed at that) and I was in the process of trying to wean him. Should I leave him and Max for my mom to handle while I take Sam in? No, we all go to the ER. Only to find out that that ER doesn't do ortho. So, Sam got to go to another hospital by ambulance since she already had an IV started. My mom drives my van over with the 2 boys. They just stay in the van and the boys sleep the entire time. Sam and I finally get out of there around 2 or 3 am. She broke it around 10:30 pm. Then we had to get scripts filled and then go get some sleep!! Her hand got really big by the next night so I had to take her to the ER again. We waited forever but it was OK. Then about 2-3 weeks later she had surgery to get it reset. a few weeks after that and the cast was finally off!

I hope this Spring break doesn't get as exciting as last years!

crawling...

Well yesterday Ike showed us he knew how to crawl-- only 2 day after he figured out how to sit up. Next he'll be pulling up and taking off on me!

Mr Ike can now sit up

Yesterday Ike figured out how to get into the sitting position. He is about 6 1/2 months old. I think he will be crawling before Easter. He already crawls backwards. Which of course gets him upset because that gets him that much further away from what he is trying to reach.

I think Ike is also starting to feel better. Not has much snot. He is still cranky though. Last night he was up until about 10ish. He is usually in bed around 8.

Strep-- again!

Ike has an ear infection and the other 3 have strep throat. They finally got me sick yesterday. So now I also have strep. I hate strep!

sick, sick, and sick!

It's not 11:30 yet but I already have a laundry basket full of "puke" clothes. All 4 kids are sick. Ike just has an awful cough with lots and lots of snot. He started getting sick Tuesday evening. He had his 6 month shots on Tuesday as well. Today Max is coughing and puking. Joe is also puking with some coughing. Sam has a little cough and I am hoping she to doesn't start puking! All the kids except Ike just got off meds 3 days ago for strep throat. Max and Ike have doctors appointment this afternoon. If it's strep with Max again, they will also test Sam and Joe for me. I kind of think Max has it again along with croup. He was coughing last night that croupy cough.

This winter has been a very sick winter for us!!

Sam just came to me and she is coughing the "puke" cough. What a fun day for me!!

Joe's fingers

Back on Dec. 26 Joe stuck 2 of his fingers in the treadmill while Pete was running. He rubbed all the skin off on the inside of his 2 fingers plus had some lovely black rubber marks on his fingers from the treadmill. We went back and forth on weather or not to take him to the ER. Pete kept ice on Joe's fingers all evening. Right after it happened, Pete turned on Spongebob and Joe stopped crying. Obviously it didn't hurt that bad if he thought spongebob was more important than crying! Anyway, I was thinking about taking him to the ER but then he fell asleep.

We kept it covered and medicated for a few days. After that we only lubed it up and covered it at night then let it dry out some during the day. He was fine and used it really with no problems. However, once it was really starting to scab over if he hit it the wrong way it would crack open and bleed.

Anyway, fast forward 6 weeks later. His middle finger would not straighten all the way out. I took him to the pedo who referred him to a hand specialist. The only pedo hand doctor apparently only is at downtown Children's Mercy hospital and works one day a week. Thankfully, my mom and Dad came up and watched Max and Sam while I took Joe and Ike to that appointment. He has a scar contracture on his middle finger. Meaning the tip does not fully extend. The surgeon said we would try a splint for 4-6 weeks. If that does not work then it will be surgery with a skin graft. I hope the splint works! He went to OT after seeing the hand surgeon. The OT made him a fancy little splint to wear at night. It puts pressure on the 2 fingers affected. I also wrap it in hydro gel they gave me.

Poor Joe! Hopefully he learned his lesson about sticking his fingers on treadmills! It could have been so much worse though.

It's back

Our website is back up-finally! Pete gave up on the host site (dynu) and bought another one (ODS - I think). I posted lots of pictures tonight. I am, of course, still about 1 1/2 months behind on pictures. Just think how far behind I am on scrapbooks!!
