Life lesson (hopefully) learned

I'm hoping Sam has learned her lesson that plastic bags really do not work as parachutes. However, she broke her arm jumping on beds and she still does that. Sam's foot/ankle is not broken. It is sprained though. She has yet to walk on it. yeah, she has crawled around and been carried a lot.

Pete took her to the doctor Saturday morning. They came back and her foot was wrapped up with an ace bandage. The X-ray tech was sick that day so they were still waiting on someone to come fill that spot. The doctor even thought about putting a cast on her foot until they knew for sure. Pete said he'd rather not have to go through all of that if it turns out not to be broken. She they had to go back at 1:00. They went and came back. Sam still had just the ace bandage wrapped around her foot. Thankfully nothing was broken though.

She is pretty pathetic. I'm really hoping within a couple of days she will be walking on it.

where does time go??

OK.. I feel like I should title every post "updates".... Cause it takes me forever to blog!

Our NYC/NJ trip went well. NYC is different but it was fun. I do plan on doing a post about it soon.

Yesterday was the last day of school! YAY! School is out for the summer. Sam will be going to 2nd grade. We had our meeting at school and the resource teacher was not that concerned. Her end of the year testing showed a 80% and a 90% for reading and math. Her writing still stinks--big time. I still plan on having her study/write over the Summer though. Hopefully that helps. (And Sharon ... I know we talked about the retention scale/test. I would not really bother with it.)

Yesterday was only a half day of school. There were no K classes. I went in to drop off some books the resource teacher let me borrow for Sam and her son was there with her. He was in K. She stated she had nobody to watch him. Not so bluntly but just in conversation. So I offered to watch him for the 1/2 day. The boys all had fun. We found a toad in the backyard. After awhile I was feeling sorry for the toad! The boys played cars, Diego, sword fights, bikes/scooters, played on the slide, and all sorts of fun things for little boys to do. He wanted some gum. After the second piece I gave him he told me I was nice! Much better than my smart mouth 6 year old who like to say I'm a mean mom!

I picked up the kids from school and dropped our extra boy back off. Then we went to the pet store for some stuff and for the kids to see some animals. I of course got to listen to... "can I have one, please?" when they spotted a new animal.

We came home and Sam played with a friend on our slip-n-slide. Then played over at the friends house for awhile. Finally around 6:30 last night they were done playing. Sam and Joe decided to test some theories out. Can a plastic bag work for a parachute while jumping down the stairs? They tired but obviously it did not work. SO .... Will a bigger bag work? Sam tired then all we heard was her crying. She somehow hurt her ankle. She crawled back up the steps, crying.

With Sam we never know if she is really hurt or just being a tad dramatic. It was shortly before 8 by this time. My doctor closes at 8. I called to asked if they did casting if a person has a broken bone or if they are referred elsewhere. She said they can do casts. However, a lot of the staff had already left because it was so close to closing time. The copay there is $25. The copay for the ER is $300. So, yeah, I am cheap. We decided to just watch it and if it gets swollen or turns colors then we would take her to the ER. Because really, at this point we still don't know how bad it is hurt or if she is 'faking' part of this. My doctor is open on weekends. So today they open at 10 am. I will be taking her this morning.

Her ankle is a little swollen but not any bruising. She won't put weight on it though. So in a couple hours I should know whats up with her ankle. What a way to start off Summer break, huh?!!

cave man

That is what I'll feel like with no computer for 5-6 days. We don't plan on taking our computers with us to NJ and NY. I hope I survive without it!!

Have a great weekend.

severed toes??

That's what it looks like after Joe gets done painting his nails!!

He is pretty proud of himself though.

Sam is proud of her 'severed' fingers as well...

And, Joe really does not paint his nails on a regular basis, in case you were wondering.

Here's another of Joe from a different day.

His hair got pretty long. Pete offered him a dollar if he would get it cut off. So yes, Joe sold himself for a dollar! I forgot to get before/after pics. I told Joe he was gonna look like a 'new man' after getting his hair cut off. So for about 2-3 days after he kept asking, "Do I look like a new man momma?" He's so cute.

However, him and Ike now have a very similar haircut so they get mixed up easily. I get asked, "are they twins?" every single time I go out somewhere with them. The sad part... They are 2 years apart but only 3 pounds apart!

NJ and NYC

Remember Pete's grandmother died last Friday? Her funeral is Saturday in New Jersey. We are flying out Friday afternoon to Newark, NJ. However, he don't want to just fly there and then come right back. What will we do? Go to NYC of course. I have never been there so I'm ready to be shocked. We will only have roughly 3 days there. We would like to stay longer but the kids only have like 2 weeks of school left.

I have been very busy trying to get everything squared away. whew! That is busy work! We are renting a car for the weekend while in NJ but returning it before we venture into NY.

The kids are all excited about flying on a big plane. They have been counting down the days.

I'm also excited but also hope all goes smoothly. After all we will be flying... with 4 kids and going to NYC... with 4 kids!

It should be an adventure for sure!

Whattha....

That's Ike new thing. He likes to say "what the..." all the time. It is cute.

But the real meaning of the post is this....

What would you you do if you saw your child throwing up this....

Kinda freaked me out a little. I even called Pete over to come look. Ike had been "eating" a chocolate covered strawberry within a few minutes before this. He was kind of gagging like he had something stuck in his throat. He never even ate any of the strawberry. He did make a huge mess of it though! So I start going through everything he had eaten, trying to think of anything red. Could it be strawberry? no- because he never even ate any. Pete and I both sniff it to see if it had the iron smell of blood....gross, I know! guess what it smelled like? yeah, throw up! Then I remembered what he ate. 2 oreo cookies with red cream centers. They are the Train Your Dragon theme or Oreos...
(I looked for a stock photo but couldn't find one... the nerve of them! Thankfully we still have some left so I could get pictures!)

Pretty red, huh? Ike's throw up looked JUST like blood. It had no chunks what-so-ever. No brown stuff either, just blood red. I wonder if the actual cookie part is in my car somewhere and he just ate the red stuff. (we had just left wal-mart so he had his 2 cookies while driving home). Maybe he had a piece of leaf stuck on the top of his mouth from the strawberry making him gag.

I don't know but it did freak my out seeing "blood" coming from his mouth! Thankfully he was fine after that all happened. AND thankfully none of it got on the carpet!
